An organized mess - everything was ready for the first day!
As exciting as the first day is, every year I still get anticipation jitters or butterflies. Nine "first days" later, I am not sure that it ever goes away and nor should it.
This year, I have 18 blessings! We spent the first day getting to know each other and will continue to do this as we acclimate ourselves to the classroom and school procedures. On our first day, we talked about our first day feelings throughout the day. We read the book First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg. Have you read it? It holds a great surprise at the end of the story! During shared writing, the children shared how the felt at the beginning of the morning. They also drew their first day feelings face and we graphed our feelings. We enjoyed jitter juice (Hawaiian Punch and Ginger Ale) along with Jello.
Jitter Juice and Jello!
We had a great conversation interpreting our data from our graph!
We ended our day with a take home treat. I found these tags courtesy of First Grade Blue Skies. What was your favorite thing about your first day or first week of school?
